Response to Intervention and Specific Learning Disabilities

Response to Intervention and Specific Learning Disabilities

Response to Intervention Specific Learning Disabilities (RTI-SLD) is a continuing education training module geared at providing a comprehensive understanding of what RTI is and how it applies to SLDs. The training will provide a general overview of the current process used for identifying children suspected of having a SLD, how we look at Learning Disabilities, the importance of reading as it pertains to Learning Disabilities, and finally, an overview of RTI and some related issues.

We know that the current system used to address the needs of children with delays in academic achievement, including reading, math, and writing is largely ineffective. Although we will describe some of the shortcomings of the current system in greater detail, it is important to understand that many children who need additional support, either do not receive the support that they need at all, or they receive that support too late to make a meaningful difference. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that educators intervene upon the academic achievement needs of children at the first opportunity possible.
This continuing education training is well suited to anyone that works with school-aged individuals, special education, or in public or private education as a school psychologist, administrator, counselor, or teacher. The continuing education module is five hours in length and will result in the viewer receiving five hours of continuing education credit. The five hour presentation is broken down into 24, roughly 10-minute segments numbered 1 through 24. The five hour presentation is broken down into smaller segments for ease of video streaming, for viewing convenience, and to not inconvenience the viewer should the viewer’s internet connection become unexpectedly interrupted. At the end of each short segment, there will be several content mastery questions that the viewer must pass at 80% or better to continue to the next segment. These content master questions are part of the way we ensure that viewers participate in the training, are a requirement from several of the approval boards, and are important to LeafWing For Professionals in achieving the goal of ensuring high quality training for professionals. Depending on your internet speed, we advise that when you click on the play button of the videos, that you press the pause button for 20-30 seconds to allow the video to buffer. This will help with playback.
